What makes you, you?

We have been learning about how DNA makes up who we are. We then had a debate about what makes you, you....your DNA or the environment that you are in.
See our presentation for our opinions.
Do you agree or disagree?

Imagine by John Lennon

We have been looking at songs, the meaning of the lyrics and the choices made by the musicians.
Here are some of our summative statements about John Lennon's song 'Imagine'

Adam
The world needs to be as one and have peace so we are all equal and there is gonna be no war.

Losa
This song to me means that people around the world should not fight about little things but have peace.

Sage
my statement is that if there was nothing no religion, no war there would be peace the world would be better than it is today.

Kevin
This song to me means that to make no more war and don't make this world fall apart so it will bring peace .

Patrick
I think that this song is about making peace for everybody around us because if there was war, countries, people and religion will be gone and there will be nothing.Heaven is gone and hell is just taking over this world.

Bradley
My statement is if people don't fight the world will live as one and will make peace.

Sammi
I think the song means peace for everyone in the world so there is no killing around everywhere.

Foi
I think this song is about imagining what will the future look like if you keep on having war around.

Marcus
I think this song makes peace around everybody because if we had peace back in the days  we they all would not have wars and things like that and still now are in in the world

Tylah-My opinion of this song is that peace and freedom is what we need to make our environment the same as others.  We need to live as one and hopefully join myself and others on our journey to stop our countries fighting and killing.

Xavier
I think the song means to imagine and make peace to the world.

Caleb
My opinion of this song is that if you imagine that there is no limits it might happen.

Mary
My opinion about this song is that it makes me feel calm and this song stops me from being anxious. The song is perfect for everyone to sing even if you're a bad singer. The song is so simple. It brings out my emotions.

Do you act the same offline as you do online?

Do you believe everything you see?

Tiana and Mary's opinion
We have realised that what we see on magazines and in the media is not always what it seems to be.
Our class has been looking critically at photos of stars and celebrities and asking questions about some of these images.
We learned about photo-shopping and whitewashing.

Here are some of our opinions about this.

What do you think about this in our media???

A is for Adaptation

Liana, Jordan D, Merina and Victor wrote a book about four animals and how they have adapted to their environments for children in room 16.  They included 'augmented reality' - using the iPad app Aurasma, you can point the iPad at four pictures in the book and a video of the animal will play.  Here is a video of the book.

Beak experiments!

Room 18 did a science experiment with different tools to show different beaks. We had pliers, a toothpick, tweezers, strainer and a straw! The first round was collecting water and putting the water to their stomach (the cups).

We looked at the cups and saw who won that round....the straw! The strainer came last.

Second round the beaks had to crush the nuts !

The winner that round was the pliers!

Third round was catching worms! They were just string :-)
The pliers won again! We think the tweezers should have won though.

Last round catching fish - they weren't real fish
The strainer won!
After that we learned that every species of bird has their own specific kind of beak to catch food and eat.
If us humans took away their habitat, they wouldn't be able to adapt to a new one quickly and probably die out!
Nobody wants that....

Our first attempt at a stop motion movie

Mr. Osler helped a group of us make a Jurassic Park scene and we thought it would be a great idea to make a movie with it.
It was our first time using stop motion so we have learned a lot about what we will do differently next time.
Narrated by Bradley.
Thanks to Mr. Osler for all his help.

Sports Shed Makeover!

Yesterday Rosebank School were lucky enough to have a group of generous people come and donate their time and efforts to help our school. They came to paint our sports shed!
