Room 18 science experiment

Today room 18 did a science experiment with Miss Dunne. Ivor ( a scientist) and Mrs Sila'ila'i (deputy principle) came in to our class to observe what we were doing. We used vinegar, water, baking soda, raw spaghetti and cooked spaghetti.

We all made our predictions on what would happen to the water when we pour it in the vinegar. After that we checked our predictions if they were right. Following on from that, we made another prediction on what would happen if we put baking soda in the water and vinegar. After a while we had to explain the whole thing. We all had fun doing this. Here are some photos!

    War time. Water vs Vinegar.

Raw spaghetti, cooked spaghetti just put it all in.

    Starting to fizz!!

   Exploding time!!

The spaghetti that was at the bottom started to float back up again!!

Why do you think this happened?
What is your explanation?

Interesting facts about The Chicken-leg Effect from today's reading.

You may have not realised this but two really weird things happen to you when you get out of bed.

When you get out of bed heaps of blood rushes down your body and you even get shorter.
Jenna

All of the blood goes to three places. Your arm, head but mostly your chest.
Caleb

Your heart can beat more slowly when your in a relaxed position.
Adam

To experiment how your body is reacting when you a sleeping try this.
1.You need a sausage shaped ballon.
2. Fill the ballon with water, knot the end and now lay it on the table.
3.Pick up the ballon from the knotted end.
4.Finally the gravity will force the water downwards, giving the balloon a heavy-bottom, bulging body shape.

3-D shapes

Today we are learning to make 3-D shapes and learn about it.  We learnt that it is a shape that can pop up to you like a punch.

Good work Bradley you're almost there!!!!

Our growing knowledge of geometry

Check out our new educreations lesson about using protractors

*There are a couple of mistakes but we hope you will be understanding*
We will show another lesson soon :-)

Believe and achieve

In room 18 we are focusing on setting and achieving goals.

We are calling it Believe and Achieve!

We are recording goals using google presentation and using google calendar to remind us to have scheduled check points.

We think that if you believe that you CAN do something you will achieve it :-)

"If you can imagine it, you can achieve it. If you can dream it, you can become it."

Sour cream.Mmmmmmm

Yesterday our class put some sour cream into containers but,we left one lid on and off.   We are working on our observation and note taking skills. We are thinking like scientists.

Here are our predictions and observations.
Come back and check how our experiment goes!
Thank you for coming on our blog.
